Outpatient

Daily clinics

The outpatient department runs daily and is staffed by medical and clinical officers who assess patients before laboratory or radiology tests. Clinics include maternal and child health, the medical outpatient clinic, the surgical outpatient clinic, and obstetrics and gynaecology.

Maternal and child health covers antenatal care, postnatal care and education, family planning, immunisations, ART counselling for mothers living with HIV, prevention of mother-to-child transmission, and mosquito-net distribution. The medical clinic reviews communicable and non-communicable disease, including diabetes, hypertension, and stroke.

Casualty, accident and emergency

The unit treats minor injuries and more serious conditions that need urgent care and stabilisation. Published hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00–17:00.

Maternity

Antenatal care, delivery, postnatal education, family planning, and prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV.

Inpatient

170 beds in six departments

Surgical, paediatric, male medical, female medical, maternity, and private wards. Each ward is attended by consultants, medical officers, clinical officers, nursing officers, interns, and trainees.

Intensive care

A 6-bed unit open 24 hours a day. Staff who work there are certified in basic and advanced cardiac life support. Each patient may have up to two visitors at a time. Visiting hours are 12:00–14:00.

Ward visiting

12:00–14:00 and 17:00–20:00.

Maternity

Care for expectant mothers and newborns, alongside the antenatal and postnatal clinics.

Pharmaceutical Services

Dispensing and counselling

The pharmacy covers medication management, dispensing, and counselling. It stocks essential medicines for patients seen in the clinics and on the wards.

Pharmacy hours published by the hospital are Monday to Friday, 9:00–17:00.

Diagnostic Services

Imaging

Radiology provides X-ray, ultrasound, CT, and special studies including barium swallow and micturating cystourethrogram.

Laboratory Services

Tests before treatment

The laboratory runs biochemistry, haematology, and immunoassay. Outpatient clinicians use these results, with imaging, when they assess a patient.

Rehabilitation

Physiotherapy and occupational therapy

Physiotherapy works on mobility, pain, and function. Occupational therapy includes paediatric care for conditions such as cerebral palsy, autism, and developmental delay.

Training

Interns and life-support courses

The hospital is a Clinical Officers Council internship site and can take up to 10 clinical officer interns from KMTC campuses for a one-year internship. It is also an American Heart Association International Training Centre for BLS and ACLS provider cards. Ask the secretary at admin@kenduhospital.org about course dates and fees.
